Chicago, IL - Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn will make a public appearance today during the Northalsted Market Days in Lakeview.

Quinn, who remains an advocate for LGBT equality, will make an appearance at the Addison stage on Halsted at Brompton Ave. beginning at 2:15 p.m.

The Governor will then meet with the LGBT for Quinn Committee, Northalsted Business Alliance and Equality Illinois supporters. He will also tour the street festival and greet voters.

In June, during the Chicago Pride Parade, Quinn signed two groundbreaking bills into law to prevent suicides among school-aged youth and prohibit bullying of gay youth.

Quinn, who faces Republican state Sen. Bill Brady in the November election for Illinois Governor, continues to struggle with low approval ratings and poor poll numbers. Today's appearance in Chicago's gay neighborhood is an effort for Quinn to drive up support from his base in the city, including the LGBT community.

Brady, a former real estate developer from downstate Bloomington, has introduced legislation to ban the recognition of same-sex marriages and has said he would veto civil union legislation. Gay rights advocates call Brady a hard right-wing candidate.
