One of the most influential LGBTQ on-air personalities in cable news, Rachel Maddow will remain at the anchor desk of MSNBC for several more years.

The New York Times reported that the 48-year old out lesbian will also develop new projects for the NBCUniversal, owner of the cable news channel.

The Daily Beast earlier reported that Maddow, whose contract would have expired next year after 13 years, was ready to jump ship and press on with podcasting and produce for a streaming service instead. It would allow her more time with family.

Maddow is considered a cash cow for MSNBC. "The Rachel Maddow Show" is the network's No. 1 show in ratings which adds up to millions in advertising bucks.

Liberal-leaning audiences prefer Maddow's brand of opinion on news events, considered a direct counter to conservative media hub, Fox News Channel.

Alongside Brian Williams, Maddow is a headlining anchor for MSNBC coverage of major breaking news events.

The Alameda County, Calif.-native was educated at Stanford University and became a Rhodes Scholar. She attained her doctorate at Oxford University. Her thesis was called "HIV/AIDS and Health Care Reform in British and American Prisons."
