Buttigieg is a daddy! Secretary and husband Chasten announce child

U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced today that he and husband Chasten are now proud parents. The gay couple promised to share more information later.

"For some time, Chasten and I have wanted to grow our family," the former Indiana mayor said in a tweet. "We're overjoyed to share that we've become parents!"

He continued, "The process isn't done yet and we're thankful for the love, support, and respect for our privacy that has been offered to us. We can't wait to share more soon."

Buttigieg is 39 years old. Husband Chasten, a former Milwaukee and Chicago-area teacher, is 32.

In the line of presidential succession, Buttigieg is the first openly gay Senate-confirmed cabinet secretary in the nation's history. Before that, he was the 32nd mayor of his native South Bend, Ind. from 2012 to 2020.

A naval intelligence officer, Buttigieg is an Afghanistan war veteran who left the U.S. Navy in 2017 with the rank of lieutenant. His unit was responsible for disrupting terrorist finances. He was also the heavily armed driver for his commander, in and out of Kabul, under constant threat of fire.
