Candace Owens says Disney is pushing predatory cartoons
Candace Owens, a best-selling author and prominent Black conservative pundit, took aim at the cartoon Muppet Babies for promoting nonbinary identities—when character Gonzo was turned into "Gonzarella" for a Cinderella episode.
Owens took to her 2.8 million-person following on Twitter to decry Disney.
"They are pushing the trans agenda on children via Muppet Babies," she said. "This is sick and perverted. Everyone should be disturbed by predatory cartoons meant to usher children into gender dysphoria."
She punctuated her argument, "Bring back manly muppets, anyone?"
Owens' tweet featured a clip of the episode with Gonzo transforming into "Gonzarella" in a retelling of the classic folk tale—with ancient roots but made famous by French author Charles Perrault and later by the German brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm.
"We met the most amazing princess, but they ran away," said little Miss Piggy in the clip—while holding a glass slipper.
Owens has been cast as one of the most influential Black voices in support of President Donald Trump. She served as communications director for Trump advocacy group, Turning Point USA until 2019.
