Pritzker extends Illinois stay-at-home order through April 30

Illinois' stay-at-home order has been extended until April 30, Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced in his daily press conference Tuesday. The order had been set to expire on April 7.

Pritzker will sign the executive order Wednesday that extends Illinois' Disaster Proclamation, stay-at-home order and ban on classroom learning across the state.

"If we can end these orders earlier, I'll be the first to tell you when we can start to make strides toward normal again," Pritzker said.

Residents will be able to go to grocery stores, gas stations and pharmacies, and they will also be able to take walks.

All local roads, including the interstate highways and tollways, will remain open to traffic. The CTA will continue to operate.

Meanwhile, all Chicago parks, including the lakefront and 606 Trail, and libraries will be closed while the order is in effect.

Social distancing guidelines will be extended nationally through April 30 as well, the White House announced on Monday.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced 937 additional cases of COVID-19 and 26 additional deaths from the pandemic. Illinois has seen 5,994 cases and 99 deaths to date.
