Helping Chicago's GLBT Community

Chicago, IL - Annual philanthropy records tracked at the New York Science, Industry and Business Library reveal that less than 1 percent of all corporate-funded foundations in the United States made specific charitable contributions to gay and lesbian organizations over the past five years.



These inequities add up over time.

This page is devoted to the charities that make a significant contribution to the LesBiGay community of Chicago. We've created this list to help you better plan your contributions. We recognize this is a partial list of the numerous organizations helping our community.

AIDS Care Inc.

AIDSCARE assists those living with advanced HIV/AIDS in the Chicago area achieve a higher quality of life through housing, care and support services. Individual and Corporate contributions accepted. Volunteers are welcome.



BeHIV

6924 N Glenwood - Chicago, IL 60626

The only comprehensive HIV/AIDS service provider in all of northern Cook County, including northern Chicago and the north and northwest suburbs. BEHIV effectively combines direct services to individuals and families living with HIV and prevention education programs for the community and those at risk.



Brown Elephant Resale

3645 N Halsted St - Chicago, IL 60657

Established in September of 1982, The Brown Elephant is the first resale shop in the country designed specifically to raise funds for HIV/AIDS care and gay and lesbian services. Donations may be dropped off at any store during regular operating hours. To schedule a free donation pick-up, call (773) 549-5943.

Chicago House

1925 N Clybourn Ave - Chicago, IL 60614

The first and largest HIV/AIDS residence and social service agency. The AIDS service organization operates a homey 24-hour care facility on the Far North Site.

Horizons Community Services

961 W Montana - Chicago, IL 60614

The goal of this lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender social center is to support the development of healthy and integrated lives. Horizon's programs are supported by Volunteers.

Howard Brown Health Center

4025 N Sheridan Rd - Chicago, IL 60613

The Midwest's largest lesbian, gay, and bisexual health organization and is the leading provider of HIV/AIDS services Midwest. There are many ways to get involved and contribute to the Center.

GLSEN Chicago

961 W Montana - Chicago, IL 60614

GLSEN - The Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network is the only national organization that brings together a wide variety of people who actively care about ending homophobia in the schools.

Test Positive Aware Network

5537 N Broadway St - Chicago, IL 60640

TPAN is the Midwest's largest non-profit support and information network for those affected by HIV. TPAN's mission is to provide education and emotional support for people affected by all states of HIV infection. There are many ways in which people choose to help TPAN, whether it be through volunteering, by giving monetary donations, or donations of products and services.

We're happy to provide this list and urge you to support these local community groups with your volunteer time and contributions. We recognize this is a very small list of the many wonderful charitable organizations throughout Chicago. Contact us about additional organizations.
