Chicago, IL -
Whether it’s the intimacy of a top notch dance club like The Factory in Los Angeles, where he currently holds his residency, or a large-scale dance event such as The White Party in Palm Springs, DJ Paulo is one of the most sought after talents and venerable faces of the nightlife scene. DJ Paulo’s unique spinning style, laced with infectious tribal beats and percussions, has catapulted him into the spotlight.
Paulo has the distinction of being a DJ recognized for his ability to connect with and draw an audience. In providing a unique yet recognizable experience for his audience, Paulo delivers a bit of the up and coming while weaving the classics into his set; giving them an added twist or a varied mix. You may learn or hear something new along the way as he tirelessly researches the latest beats for each performance. This is what allows for his appeal to both straight and gay audiences as he has the ability to play for each event accordingly; a club one week; a circuit event the next.
Paulo’s first big break came with the infamous Tom of Finland “Man-o-Rama” parties in Los Angeles. He was then selected to be the resident DJ for SPIN, an after-hours club, which had quickly become an overnight sensation at the famed Palace Theatre in Hollywood. During his two year tenure at SPIN, DJ Paulo also headlined other notable dance events such as The Red Eye and Stereo. He also has been featured as top DJ billing for events such as “The Halloween Ball”, “IndepenDance”, and “The Closing Party” for LA Pride at the historic Mayan in downtown Los Angeles.
In April 2001, party-promoter Jeffrey Sanker called upon DJ Paulo to headline the Grand Finale Party for White Party 2001 in Palm Springs with a record 15,000 people in attendance. The crowd’s response to this party prompted Sanker to request DJ Paulo to command the same event for White Party 2002 as well as headlining Friday’s after-hours at White Party 2003. In the spring of 2002 DJ Paulo made his New York debut, where he co-headlined the infamous Black Party at Roseland for over 8,000 party-goers. That summer, he headlined Trade London, Amnesia in Ibiza, Velvet Nation in DC, and Palladium in SF. His most recent special guest DJ appearances have taken him around the globe including Salvation/Maze in Miami, White Party in Rio, Fly in Toronto, Blue Ball in Philadelphia, Beach Ball Gay Days 2002 in Orlando, Resolution parties in LA and SD, and the Captive recovery party at Sleaze Ball in Sydney. Summer of 2003 kicked off with Paulo co-headlining the famous Alegria party at the Sound Factory in New York City. Following gigs included Unity/Gay Pride in Toronto, Pride in SF, and 4th of July week in Provincetown with David Flower.
When not behind the tables, DJ Paulo can be found in the studio working on remixes. His first commercial remix, which he did for Barry Harris’ “Dive in the Pool” (Billboard’s #2 Dance hit after Madonna’s “Music”) was a favorite amongst club goers. He quickly followed up this success with his remix of Thunderpuss’ “Papa’s got A Brand New Pig Bag” which reached the top 5 of the Dance Billboard Charts. Paulo has created a remix for Pepper Mashay’s “I’ve Got My Pride” which reached a peak of #2 on the dance charts. Recent productions include the classic “Elements” and Dee-Lite’s “What Is Love” which was played by the likes of Danny Tenaglia and Peter Rauhofer. Ralphi Rosario requested Paulo to remix Antonia Lucas’ “Let The Feeling Go” currently out on Rosabel’s Fireball CD. He is presently remixing several other projects slated for release and plays original remixes at his live club sets.
With more than 15 years of professional DJ experience behind him, DJ Paulo has earned his stripes and is on his way to making his space among respected DJ superstars such as Victor Calderone, Peter Rauhofer and Abel. Paulo’s unique sets of tribal-injected deep house music and original remixes and productions have garnered him praise that has reached international levels.
