Chicago, IL -
The Courage Campaign has organized an online petition to President Barack Obama (D) to address Don't Ask Don't Tell (DADT) policies now.
Titled "Mr. President: Don't wait. Don't delay. End "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" now.", the communication demands that Obama use his executive authority to immediately repeal the controversial policy.
In a statement today to ChicagoPride.com, Courage Campaign founder and chair Rick Jacobs said "the Courage Campaign is committed to winning full equality for LGBT people. This is a vital part of the progressive movement. I just sat through two and a half weeks of the Prop 8 trial, where people seek to deny us the right to love. Surely we have the right to defend our country openly."
According to Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell, "The Defense Department leadership is actively working on an implementation and the secretary will have more to say about this next week."
The Department of Defense has announced that Defense Secretary Robert Gates will testify before the Senate Armed Services Committee on DADT on February 2, 2010.
Spearheading this project is former Lt. Dan Choi, a victim of DADT.
