Grindr, the most widely-used dating app for gay and bisexual men, now offers its 3.6 million daily users the option to get reminders when they're due for an HIV test.
"We felt this update would be a great way to make an immediate impact within the community on a broad scale and encourage more regular HIV testing," said Jack Harrison-Quintana, director of Grindr for equality, in a statement.
Once activated, a pink reminder will appear to alert users to get tested every three or six months. It will then identify a local clinic to get the test done.
The CDC recommends that sexually active gay meant get tested at least once a year, and those at highest risk — including those with many partners or who don't use condoms and are not taking PrEP — get tested every three to six months.
