Chicago, IL -
Chicago Fire Department (CFD) officials confirmed one person dead and five injured, two seriously at an early afternoon fire in a five story apartment building in Rogers Park, very near the Loyola campus.
The fire occurred at 6720 N. Sheridan Road in Chicago.
According to District Chief Patrick Malone of CFD District 2, "at 12:14 this afternoon the alarm office received multiple calls of a fire at this building, it's a four plus one ordinary constructed I shaped apartment over commercial. There was heavy volume of fire on floor number five throughout the entire hallway. There was multiple rescues made here with ground ladders. We have a total of four victims, four civilian victims now, one DOA, which we will classify in black condition, two red, one of which jumped from the fifth floor down in the back area to the alley."
A "red" classification would be categorized as critical.
Two CFD members received what were described as non-life threatening injuries.
An investigation as to the cause of the fire is underway.
