Chicago, IL -
President Barack Obama this morning declared the swine flu outbreak a national emergency. This gives the Government the ability to override certain prerequisites to addressing the emergency, like, as an Obama official pointed out, declaring a national emergency ahead of a hurricane hitting landfall.
The CDC believes it's likely that those with HIV are at an increased risk of complications from the H1N1 swine flu, just as we are at increased risk from any flu complication. There is no data on H1N1 and HIV as no studies have been conducted.
Swine flu has resulted in more than 1,000 U.S. deaths so far. Discuss with your doctor whether or not they think you should get the swine flu vaccination. Keep your hands clean and use hand sanitizer.
ChicagoBreakingNews.com reports long lines were forming this morning as free clinics throughout Chicago began dispensing H1N1 swine flu vaccinations.
The clinics are set up at six City College locations, and health officials are cautioning that the supply is more limited than they had hoped and that it would be reserved only for high-risk population groups.
Those in the LGBT community without a doctor or health care can go into the Howard Brown Health Center or Test Positive Aware Network and ask for information about HIV and H1N1 precautions.
