Nick Jonas, Demi Lovato cancel North Carolina shows over 'hateful' anti-gay law

Tue. April 26, 2016

Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato on Monday announced the cancellation of two North Carolina shows on their joint tour to protest a state law that targets the LGBT community.

"After much thought and deliberation, Nick and I have decided to cancel our shows in Raleigh and Charlotte," Lovato said in a statement given to GLAAD. "We know the cancellation of these shows is disappointing to our fans, but we trust that you will stand united with us against this hateful law."

"One of our goals for the Honda Civic Tour: Future Now has always been to create an atmosphere where every single attendee feels equal, included, and accepted for who they are," she added.

Jonas and Lovato were scheduled to perform in Charlotte on June 30th and Raleigh on July 2nd.

North Carolina's law, House Bill 2, prohibits cities from approving LGBT protections and bars students attending public institutions from using the bathroom that does not conform to their gender at birth.

Other artists who have canceled shows over the law include Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Ringo Starr, Boston and Cirque du Soleil.
