Chicago, IL -
By the time you all pick up this issue I'm sure you will all know about MZ Frankie Knuckles and Hydrate But for those of you who don't, Kii Kii's going to school you. Starting in August (right around Market Daze) Frankie Knuckles will begin his residency at Hydrate on Sundays. Twice a month he will be letting Halsted St. have Tea Dances the way they should be….soulful and uplifting. Doing 8 hour sets that begin at 6pm, he guarantees a fun time for all. House Tea dances are all the rage in San Francisco and in the South. Let's hope Chicago is ready to bring it back to where it used to be! Speaking of Hydrate, have we noticed how way cute their staff is? Bartenders Ben, Jonathan, and Danny are all that. Stop by and say hello to Door Hostess Yevra too. CUTE THANG!
A few Thursdays back MZ Lisa Lexus had her birthday bash at Cocktail and Felt. With performances by Americana, Cad'lac Deville, J.J. and Lady J, the kids just couldn't get enough. So they headed over to FELT for an impromptu house-packing curtain call. It was quite lovely. So what's up with Voltaire? Nothing apparently. Their doors have been shut after almost 5 years. Rumors of a swank upscale eatery coming in its place. Are you legendary?……MZ 'wing in a sling' Byrd Bardot launches her new Monday night extravaganza called "Legendary" on August 4th at Zentra. This event is being billed as a tribute to Chicago nightlife. Byrd also will be hosting the return of Psycho-Bitch to Saturdays at Zentra. Tim Delux and Derrick Carter on August 1st also will be making an appearance. Jackhammer hosted a party in conjunction with Mephisto Leather Chicago back on July 20th hyping AussieBum clothing. The patio party was quite cute with a taste of daddy in the air.
Club Reunion on Lake and Halsted has kicked off their new Thursday event called "Free Thursday". House mainstays Craig Loftus and Ron Carroll with provide sensations for the ears. August 2nd hosts DJ Dayhota at SmartBar. This gal can throw down, y'all. Give her a listen if you haven't been yet. Wednesdays are the night for Back In The Day Café at Le Passage. They boast the best in 80's Hip-Hop, Rock, and Flashback Dance. Music 101 and Sonic Boom take over the decks at Domaine on Thursdays for House of Yes with DJs DIZ, Brian Borden and Frique. Spy bar Saturdays has Andrew Vonn spinning old school house, hip-hop and progressive house…. How the hell do you combine those 3 styles? YIKES.
Well kids, that's all for this issue. I won't have a column next issue because I'll be in Sao Paulo. Don't forget your SPF30, because skin cancer just ain't cute!
