Chicago, IL -
Chicago's Proudest Neighborhood is encouraging the community to shop local this holiday season with the debut of its new Proud Purchase Card, a program that rewards buyers for shopping in Boystown.
The campaign is a beefed-up extension of the Northalsted Business Alliance's longstanding Holiday Bucks gift card, but this year, the Lakeview organization is adding a charity component to everyone's shopping sprees.
Here's how it works: Holiday shoppers can buy a Proud Purchase Card exclusively on the Northalsted Business Alliance's new website, with cards ranging anywhere from $25 to $400. But the more you buy, the more you save. Each card is loaded with an additional 20 percent bonus, meaning if you purchase a card for $100, the actual value on the card will be $120.
Shoppers can use the card at more than 40 different neighborhood businesses, from all the Boystown nightlife favorites like Roscoe's, Minibar and Replay to retailers like CRAM, Whole Foods and Paired Wine Co. Even Steamworks is on the list of participating businesses.
This year, however, the organization is taking the promotion a step further.
"Because it's always better to give than to receive, for every Proud Purchase Card sold, the Northalsted Business Alliance will donate 5 percent to its charitable members," the group said in a statement.
Shoppers choose their favorite charitable organization when purchasing their card, and five percent is automatically funneled to a good cause. Local partners include the AIDS Foundation of Chicago, Center on Halsted, Howard Brown Health Center, Lakeside Pride Music Ensembles, Inc., Lakeview Pantry, The Legacy Project and Windy City Performing Arts.
The new charitable partnerships, holiday card and website are all a part of what NAB Executive Director Christopher Barrett Politan hopes will further rebrand Boystown as Chicago's Proudest Neighborhood.
"The Proud Purchase Card launch is the perfect opportunity to show the world our new website, which is an important vehicle for us to position Boystown as the proudest neighborhood on the planet," Politan said. "In addition, the charity component for this year's gift card program shines the spotlight on non-profit members and their vital roles in our community."
Those interested can purchase their Proud Purchase Card on the NAB website.
