After more than 30 years in the music industry, it's clear Belinda Carlisle's still got the beat.
The lead vocalist of the Go-Go's is headed to Northalsted Market Days, bringing with her smash hits like "Our Lips Our Sealed, "We've Got the Beat," as well as songs from her solo career like, "Heaven is a Place on Earth."
As one of the most successful all-female groups of all time, the Go-Go's are responsible for a number of iconic hits, selling more than seven million albums. The group is known for maintaining creative control over their music, a fact that Carlisle says she wishes would happen more often.
"Well, you would think by now there would be more people like us," Carlisle told Palm Springs Life in July. "There are lots of vocal groups and girl bands. But there almost always seems to be a Svengali pulling the strings behind the scenes. We are a total female operation, and we have always been true to who we are. We have always been involved in the music, our artwork, and the production."
As for snagging Carlisle, organizers of Northalsted Market Days told ChicagoPride.com, "She's been someone we have wanted for a while, and the stars finally aligned for her to join us this year."
Belinda Carlisle performs the North Stage at 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, August 9. Northalsted Market Days, which is organized by the Northalsted Business Alliance, runs Aug. 9-10 on Halsted Street for six blocks between Belmont and Addison in Boystown. A $10 donation is recommended.
Market Days Schedule: Saturday, August 9 | Sunday, August 10
