Boystown Brown Elephant closing Wednesday

Wed. June 25, 2014

Chicago, IL - Today is the last day to shop and donate at the Brown Elephant location on North Halsted. The Boystown Brown Elephant will close for its final time at 6 p.m. on Wednesday and reopen July 1 on Lincoln Avenue.

"As Howard Brown commemorates 40 years of service to the community, we are proud to strengthen our commitment to charity care with an improved location for the flagship Brown Elephant store in Lakeview," said David Munar, Howard Brown Health Center President and CEO. "The new location at Lincoln and Southport will offer our loyal donors and shoppers a better retail experience."

The Brown Elephant resale stores help fund the health and wellness services offered by Howard Brown Health Center, 4025 N. Sheridan.

"We expect the move will help offset rising healthcare costs for patients on fixed incomes," Munar told ChicagoPride.com. "The new space will allow Howard Brown new options to offer testing and behavioral health services on site."

The staff has started moving furniture and clothing to the new location as the lease at the Boystown location, 3651 N. Halsted, is up at the end of the month.

The new location at 3020 N. Lincoln will maintain the same hours of operation, daily from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.

The Brown Elephant also has locations in Andersonville at 5405 N. Clark and Oak Park at 217 Harrison. For more information or to donate, visit the Brown Elephant website.
