Chicago, IL -
It both saddened and shocked me to hear about Arie recently. Whether he was pouring a drink or just hanging out on the Halsted St. with friends he brought a smile to many a face with his mere presence. Arie, you will be soarly missed. And with that:
This ain't the Matrix, Goddamit!!! Keep in mind that this issue's column is a collective effort because, after all, Kii Kii can't be everywhere at once. (I have to have someone else to blame for this trash, Ya know!) I've already been warned by the high priestesses of the editing room to word things carefully this issue. IML WEEKEND!!!! - IT WAS……….Eh, Ok. The most fun I had were in the bathrooms at the Palmer House Hotel!!!! Festivities seemed to be lacking somewhat this year. Pornapalooza was fair. Leather Rights should have been called Leather Light. What happened to Ralphi and Abel? They used to do these two events and when they did, they brought a fun and funk with them that was definitely not matched by this year's B-league. DJ DeMarko at Circuit was not without his charm. Why weren't more local DJ's involved with things? The only events that seemed to stand out among the party children were the Hot Tea with Mark Anthony (Sauci gave us a WAY cute show), and the Eye in the Sky Morning Party with Jim Lewis and Luis M. Kudos to Mike G, Melissa Brown, and Eddie X for recognizing Chicago's DJ talent and bringing a cute party to an otherwise average weekend.
Smartbar brought the kids Tony Humphies over Memorial Day Weekend and then followed up next week by West Coast Pioneer Miguel Migs. Miguel took the kids there with a sound that blew the roof off the place! My sister Tammy reports that Miguel's music was somewhat hype compared to his normal gigs, but the kids loved it none the less. SuperLounge……been there yet on a Thursday? Well, too late. A way cute night with way cute DJ's (Mike Serafini, Ralphi Rosario and Tony Moran) didn't fly very well and now it's over. My children of the night report back that Mz. J. J. and Cadillac DeVille will be hosting the July 4th Frankie Knuckles extravaganza this year. They are sure to make this night of nights special for the kids of clubland.
Pure brought us Layo & Bushwacka back on May 24th at Zentra. It was way cute for the night-time living. On May 25th, Berlin hosted the Video Release Party for the group Flutter with a performance by Christine Ingaldson. I don't think I've seen a live performer at Berlin in YEARS! This was a lot of fun. By the time this issue hits the street this will be a "forth coming" event: Deep Dish will be playing at Transit on June 12th opposite Dimitri from Paris. Doors open at 10p.m. for the kids. Have you been down to Ice Bar yet? If you like laid-back and trendy types then check this place out. It's located at 738 N. Clark and you can learn more at www.icebar-chicago.com. Rumblings from boys-ville that there will be a pride event this year: The Heart's Foundation will be having a party down at Excalibur with an opening set by Greg Drescher and peak by Barry Harris. Eric Daly is back on Monday nights at Domaine on Rush St. Rumbles that he may be getting a Saturday night there too? Maybe. Well, that's enough for now kids and remember………..always wipe more than once. It's just good hygiene.
