Chicago, IL -
Former Los Angeles Laker Rick Fox says the public must demand acceptance for gay athletes.
Fox, who last played for the Lakers in 2004, made his comments during an appearance on Larry King Now.
When host Larry King asked whether gay athletes would be accepted, Fox answered: "I think it's been here. The acceptance of it will grow with time. Jason Collins and I think Michael Sam recently in football, brave men for stepping out and being a voice and standing for themselves and being role models for other gay men and women who are in the workplace that want to be expressed."
Fox said he did not know gay players during his NBA career.
"Do you think it's going to be accepted readily in NBA locker rooms?" King asked.
"I think you have to demand it. I think you have to just demand equality in general," Fox answered.
