In the 1990s when gay divas like the Spice Girls and Britney Spears exploded onto the scene, there was one song that was impossible to miss: "This Is Your Night," by Amber. The Dutch-born German singer, now 44, debuted the song as her first demo ever, and overnight it became one of the most successful songs of 1996 and 1997.
It was followed by two more hits from the Euro-pop singer, "If You Could Read My Mind," and "Sexual (Li Da Da)," among others from her four studio albums between 1996 and 2004. Amber, who credits much of her success to her gay fanbase, has performed at multiple gay pride festivals since 2009, including those in Baltimore and Portland.
Amber performs the North Stage at 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 22. Chicago Pride Fest, which is organized by the Northalsted Business Alliance, runs June 21-22 on Halsted Street between Addison and Grace. A $10 donation is recommended. The Chicago Pride Parade is the following Sunday, June 29 at noon.
