Chicago, IL -
Pop-duo Karmin, known for their chart-toppers "Acapella", "Hello" and "Brokenhearted", is the latest entertainment act announced for the 33rd annual Northalsted Market Days this August in Chicago's Boystown neighborhood.
"We are psyched to welcome them back to Market Days," Northalsted Business Alliance spokesperson Jen Gordon told ChicagoPride.com Monday. "They were a huge hit in 2012 when they were just coming up on the music scene. And now with a new album dropping this month, we expect even bigger crowds to come out and see them at Market Days."
In April 2011, Karmin, consisting of Amy Renee Heidemann and Nick Noonan, gained notoriety for their inspired YouTube covers songs, including Chris Brown's "Look At Me Now", before being signed to Epic Records. Karmin will release their long anticipated full-length album, "Pulses", on March 25.
The duo has played Chicago multiple times at events such as Market Days in 2012 and Macy's Glamorama. Karmin will headline 2014 Northalsted Market Days on Sunday, Aug. 10.
Monday's announcement comes hot on the heels of another musical surprise for the two-day street festival. A source confirmed with ChicagoPride.com Feb. 25 that Belinda Carlisle will kick-off Market Days on Saturday, Aug 9.
As one of the most successful all-female groups of all time, Carlisle's former pop group the Go-Go's are responsible for a large number of iconic hits which sold more than seven million albums. Carlisle continued with a successful solo career with singles like "Heaven is a Place on Earth."
Organizers also confirmed to ChicagoPride.com that teen pop star Aaron Carter, singer-songwriter Mary Lambert and Charice will be featured performers at the annual street festival.
Carter, the younger brother of the Backstreet Boys' Nick Carter, returns for a second year. Lambert, an out lesbian, rose to fame after writing and singing the chorus on Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' Grammy-nominated song, "Same Love."
Market Days is organized by the Northalsted Business Alliance, the same group behind Chicago Pride Fest.
Market Days, which is Chicago's largest festival, is slated from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Aug. 9-10. Chicago Pride Fest is scheduled for Saturday, June 21 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, June 22 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The 2014 Chicago Pride Parade is Sunday, June 29.
