Howard Brown Health Center eliminates six positions

Fri. January 10, 2014

Chicago, IL - Howard Brown Health Center (HBHC), one of the largest LGBT healthcare providers in the country, has eliminated six administrative positions, including the Associate Director of the Broadway Youth Center and the Vice President of Finance.

First reported by Windy City Times on Thursday, the terminations include Marlon Wells, VP of accounting and finance; Chandler Howell, VP of shared services; and Amy Miller, associate director of Broadway Youth Center (BYC); Kitri Steigerwald, development associate and David Dodd, communications manager. BYC director Lara Brooks left in December and was replaced by Imani Rupert.

Barbara Tieder, VP of development and communications, told the Times the terminations were part of a new 'Strategic Plan' adopted by HBHC in August 2013. She said the decision would not effect the quality of HBHC's healthcare.

The Times reported earlier in the week that significant changes were coming at the agency, including a possible replacement for CEO Karma Israelsen, who replaced Jamal Edwards in August 2012.

Founded in 1974, the health center has recently experienced a revolving door in leadership and struggled with financial scandals.

HBHC also runs Aris Health Center, which opened in September after significant delays.
