The Evanston Police Department has appointed of Sergeant Melissa G. Sacluti as the Police Liaison for Evanston's LGBT community.
Sergeant Sacluti will serve as a connection for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community as part of the city's commitment to serve the diverse needs of all residents.
"I am extremely grateful to the Evanston Police Department and Sergeant Sacluti," said openly gay 6th Ward Ald. Mark Tendam. "With the establishment of a police liaison, the LGBT community now has a dedicated voice serving them."
In addition to her current duties, Sergeant Sacluti will be responsible for fostering positive relations between the LGBT community and the Evanston Police Department, and ensuring that police department policies remain sensitive to residents' needs.
"The City of Evanston is committed to serving all members of our community," said Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl. "The creation of an LGBT Police Liaison demonstrates our dedication to service and inclusion. We look forward to continuing a positive relationship with our LGBT neighbors and friends."
In its continued efforts to implement a new style of policing, the Evanston Police Department seeks to balance traditional and innovative policing methods. The Police Department's programs and services are designed to reach out, connect and work with residents.
