Los Angeles, CA -
Less than a day after finally appearing in court to be deposed for her ongoing custody battle—a process she failed to cooperate with on four previous occasions—pop singer Britney Spears has been hospitalized at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles and is under strict psychiatric evaluation.
The singer reportedly refused to hand over her children to ex-husband Kevin Federline late last night and held the two minors hostage in her Los Angeles home. According to reports, police were called to Spears' home and the singer was rushed to the emergency room on a stretcher.
Video footage of Spears arriving at the hospital shows the singer to be awake but in a daze. Gossip columnist Perez Hilton is reporting that Spears was under the influence of an unidentified substance when police arrived.
According to various reports, Spears has been declared a special needs patient which, a hosiptal source told Rolling Stone Magazine, means Spears will be under constant supervision so that she doesn't hurt herself or another patient.
Spears' increasingly erratic behavior has been the subject of much tabloid fodder in recent months. From wild joyrides around the city to failing to show up for numerous scheduled court dates, Spears had gone from living on top of the world to losing custody of her kids to her ex husband.
Just 48 hours ago, the pop star was filmed driving around Los Angeles in circles while she was supposed to be in court. At the time, her legal team announced they'd be stepping down from the case because they could no longer communicate with their client.
Recent reports suggest Spears is on suicide watch and that was initially deemed a 72 hour stay has been extended to 14 days. Reps for Spears and Federline have yet to make an official statement.
