Chicago, IL -
Truth Wins Out (TWO), a non-profit advocacy group that fights anti-LGBT religious extremism, has moved its headquarters to Chicago.
"I've called Chicago my mistress for a long timeāor 'my mister' would be more appropriate," Wayne Besen, founder of Truth Wins Out, told Windy City Times.
The non-profit organization was originally headquartered in New York City, which became too expensive. Operations then moved to Burlington, Vt., a small college town with a population a little more than 40,000.
But Besen told the Times he longed for the resources and organizations that a bigger city could offer.
"We looked at other factors: livability, affordability, a strong LGBT community. Chicago just seemed like a really great fit," he said. "Chicago just made a lot of sense. It's an incredible city with a very strong LGBT community and it's also a lot more affordable than Manhattan, or even Brooklyn now."
Bensen cited Chicago's thriving LGBT community, direct flights from two major airports, access to scholars from area universities and a potential base of volunteers as benefits for the move.
TWO will be located at 5315 N. Clark in the Andersonville neighborhood.
