Dayna Morales, gay server who claimed she was stiffed on tip, fired from job

Mon. December 9, 2013

Dayna Morales, the lesbian server who claimed a family left her an offensive note instead of a tip, has lost her job.

"Ms. Morales and Gallop Asian Bistro have made a joint decision that Ms. Morales will no longer continue her employment at our restaurant," the restaurant wrote in a Facebook post. "We wish her well in the future."

Donations poured in for Morales after she claimed to have received a critical note instead of the customary 20 percent tip on a nearly $100 meal from a family of four.

"Sorry I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle & the way you live your life," a handwritten note on the receipt reads.

Morales, who served in the Marine Corps for two years, received an overwhelming response when she wrote about the experience in an email to the blog Have A Gay Day.

The firing comes a little over a week after the family stepped forward to deny the allegations, saying that they did leave a tip and never wrote the note.

The New York Post reported on Saturday that Morales had quietly started returning donations she had received after the incident was widely reported.

"I received a refund ...for the donation I made to Dayna Morales," Kate Dols posted on the Have a Gay Day Facebook page. "Glad to see she is doing the right thing ...Dayna, you need help, please seek it."

A former co-worker told The Post that Morales has a history of lying.

"She exaggerated every story," Julie Howat said. "I knew [the receipt] was fake. When the articles came out, everyone at my job laughed."
