Southern Decadence in New Orleans this Weekend

Tue. August 28, 2007

The dirty South rises to party another day

New Orleans, LA - t may have begun as whimsical going away party put together by a clever ragtag bunch of friends over three decades ago, but Southern Decadence is today New Orleans' largest gay celebration.

Annually held over Labor Day weekend, the debauched four day extravaganza that is Southern Decadence is chock full of scores of porn stars, divas, scantily clad boys and round the clock entertainment.

In 2005, for the first time in its history, the highly anticipated event was cancelled as the city of New Orleans found itself struggling to regain its footing in the wake of the devastating aftermath left behind by Hurricane Katrina. And while 2006 saw the return of one of the South's most popular gay celebrations, 2007 promises to be the year that Southern Decadence reclaims its former glory.

Following a kick off event featuring performances by Southern Decadence Grand Marshals from previous years on Thursday, August 30, the grand mistress of adult film, Chi Chi Larue will shift this year's festivities into high gear by hosting her own official kick-off party featuring her stable of porn stars and a ‘Big Dick Contest' at Bourbon Street Pub, the command center of Southern Decadence.

Larue will also keep the party going on Friday as she spins the afternoon away on the turntables, before yielding the spotlight to another big-haired drag legend, Lady Bunny, who takes the stage Friday night to whip the boys into a lather with her dragalicious combination of comedy and song.

Things will reach a fever pitch at Southern Decadence 2007 on Saturday as BadPuppy hosts a model search contest, the hilarious Shirley Q. Liquor asks questions like "How you durrin'?" live in concert, and the Bourbon Street Extravaganza readies to shake the rafters with performances by the likes of Deborah Cox and Jeanie Tracy.

Falcon Entertainment Exclusive Roman Heart has recently been added to the entertainment lineup with performances at The Bourbon Pub and parade.

Then on Sunday, there is the annual Southern Decadence Parade and all night party presented in partnership with the Bad Boy Club Montreal (Black & Blue) that will feature among other highlights a special performance by dance diva, Pepper Mashay.

Finally for those who haven't quite had enough decadence come Labor Day, there will be a Closing Night Party at Bourbon Street that promises to go from 9PM – until??? Did I mention that this party never stops?

Looking forward and ready to party, Southern Decadence marches on in 2007. I guess you just can't keep a good gay party down… for long.
