Chicago, IL -
Most of the 25,000 people at the 2006 Gay Games Closing Ceremony at Chicago's famous Wrigley Field got their first introduction to BETTY when they performed a rousing rendition of the U.S. National Anthem. Mesmerizing, unique and surprising, the performance brought everyone to their feet - Americans and non-Americans alike.

BETTY is Elizabeth Ziff, Alyson Palmer and Amy Ziff. The band's unique sound is a blend of tight harmonies layered over rocking guitars and a solid rhythm section. Since 1986, BETTY has performed their memorable live show - full of exciting, hook-laden songs, clever word play and manic energy - in clubs, theatres and arenas all over the world. BETTY's 2005 national tour of their hit Off-Broadway show, BETTY RULES, their popular theme song for Showtime Television's most popular show, THE L WORD, and their acting appearances on that program catapulted this deeply beloved cult band to wilder international recognition. Their music has been part of HBO's "Encyclopedia," Comedy Central's "Out on the Edge," PBS' "TV411," and motion pictures "Life with Mikey (Disney), "The Out-Of-Towners" (Paramount), "It's Pat" (Touchstone) and "The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love" (Miramax).
Activist entertainers, the band is known for fighting fiercely for what they believe: equal rights, feminism, finding cures for breast cancer and AIDS, Planned Parenthood, the Pro-Choice movement and an end to sexual violence. Over the years, their benefit performances have helped raise millions of dollars.
BETTY's "superb songcraft" (KALX Radio) and "spine-tingling harmonies" (Wall Street Journal) are featured on the band's five full-length recordings, "Hello,BETTY!", "Limboland", "BETTY3" , "Carnival" and cast record "BETTY RULES"; on their EPs, "Kiss My Sticky" and "Snowbiz"; on the soundtracks of each of their films and on an eclectic array of compilation albums, from the gritty "Rock For Choice" to Broadway's legendary "Salute to Sondheim."
"BETTY is three women singing their own songs with heart, humor, activism, attitude, and dare I say, genius. You'll never want to leave." - Gloria Steinem
"So joyously captivating, you'll ovulate" - Lily Tomlin
"I love BETTY! They have more balls than any boy band I know." - Alan Cumming
Opening for BETTY will be Chicago's own Stewed Tomatoes. An "all female indie pop punk sex funk rock phenomena," the Chicago Tribune's Achy Obejas wrote "These chick rockers are a tasty sample of a mind-crunching underground phenomenon." The Advocate profiled them as "women to watch out for" and Billboard Magazine's Kathie Berquist wrote "I got stewed, and loved it."
MCing the evening will be Tamale, a Chicago based and national performing stand-up, improv, sketch comedy, burlesque, drag, and fire dancing artist.
This performance by BETTY is produced and sponsored by Windy City Media Group, publishers of Windy City Times, Nightspots, Windy City Queercast, and Identity. Windy City Media Group also produces Windy City Gay Idol, now in its fifth year, and the 30 Under 30 Awards, presented in Chicago June 20.
