Chicago, IL -
From a little idea this tiny spark grew into what we know today as Roscoe's Tavern and Cafe. Roscoe's started out as a little watering hole in just the front half of the space with a gourmet grocery on the other half. Over the years it expanded into the rest of the property with 5 different bar areas, an outdoor café, indoor food service, patio and the dance floor.
When Roscoe's started out, there were only a handful of bars on the strip Roscoe's was the first to put in large expansive windows in to lighten up the place and give access to what was happening on the streets. In other words they took "Gay Bars" out of the dark ages and gave it an era of openness.
Over their 20 years of operation, Roscoe's have been proud to work with such community organizations and was a founding sponsor for Dance for Life for the AIDS Foundation. Over the years, Roscoe's has been involved with Howard Brown Health Center, Lesbian Community Cancer Project, Equality IL, HRC PFLAG, 23rd Dist Police Dept with number of community programs and Officer Appreciation days, Center on Halsted, Lakeview Pantry and numerous other organizations.
Roscoe's has a lot to boast about, but their softball team "Roscoe's Rage", a team to contend with. In the last couple of years they have come in first in the Dairyland Classic in Milwaukee. They are a part of the MSA, the Metropolitan Sports Association for amateur league players in the Midwest. During the past 20 years Roscoe's has sponsored a number of other teams.
