Chicago, IL -
Actor John Barrowman has said that his response to Twitter followers that use anti-gay language is to ban them from his account.
Earlier this month, Barrowman, who is best known for playing Captain Jack Harkness on the BBC science fiction series Doctor Who and Torchwood, married his longtime partner Scott Gill in California.
Barrowman, who holds both British and American citizenship, tweeted, "We are now legally married. Thanks for all your great wishes," along with a photo of the happy couple holding a California marriage certificate.
Some of the responses, Barrowman said, were "outrageously vile."
"People have a right to their beliefs but it doesn't mean they have to be nasty and deny other people their human rights. The world is not going to change and fall apart because a gay couple got married. It's a way for us to celebrate our love. That's it," Barrowman added.
Barrowman and Gill met in 1993 at the Chichester Festival Theatre where Barrowman was performing. They entered a UK civil partnership in 2006.
