Sat. November 4, 2006

Los Angeles, CA - Neil Patrick Harris has come out in a recent People Magazine interview saying "(I) am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest."

The 33-year-old, best known for his role as Doogie Howser, MD, says he was motivated to disclose his sexuality because of recent “speculation and interest in my private life and relationships.”

Internet gossip blogs have speculated about Harris’ sexuality for weeks.

Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton writes on his site, “We get so much shit from people for our position on reporting about the private lives of celebrities - gay or straight, out or closeted. And, today is a victory.”

Neil Patrick Harris joins other celebrity outings this year which includes Lance Bass and T.R. Knight.

Hilton, who is openly gay, says “the closet no longer exists if you are a celebrity or a politician.” On his popular website (www.perezhilton.com), Hilton has challenged a number of celebrities to come out including Anderson Cooper, Clay Aiken, Ricky Martin and Sean Hayes.

Harris currently stars in the CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother.

The full interview story appears on the People Magazine website.
