Illinois Senate approves medical marijuana bill

Fri. May 17, 2013

Springfield, IL - The Illinois Senate on Friday approved a measure allowing the use of marijuana for medical purposes.

The measure, which was approved by a 35-21 vote, now moves to Gov. Pat Quinn. The Democratic governor has not indicated whether he would sign the bill.

The proposal covers more than 30 medical conditions, including HIV and cancer.

If the bill is singed into law by Quinn, Illinois would become 19th state to legalize medical marijuana.
