New York City -
New York media reports four men will be formally charged today in connection with the vicious beating of internationally known Kevin Aviance.
Aviance, 38, whose songs have topped the Billboard dance chart, was attacked late Saturday as he left a Manhattan gay bar. According to New York City police, the singer was kicked by four youths who called him "faggot."
Police charged the four aged 16 to 20 with hate crime assault and hate crime harassment. They were being held pending arraignment today.
According to publicist Len Evans, Aviance's jaw is wired shut, but he hopes to perform in the city's Gay Pride parade at the end of the month. He is expected to be released Monday from the hospital where he underwent surgery.
Aviance is a popular performer in New York City and has made numerous appearances in Chicago including Fireball.
