Equality Illinois names new board members

Thu. December 20, 2012

Chicago, IL - Equality Illinois, the state's oldest LGBT advocacy organization, Wednesday announced the addition of four new directors to its two governing boards.

The new board directors are David Munar, President/CEO of the AIDS Foundation of Chicago; Yvette Chavez, prominent business person and transgender activist; Michael Collins, Accredited Domestic Partner Advisor, Robert W. Baird & Co.; and Anthony D'Amato, Vice President and General Counsel at Illinois Institute of Technology.

"We appreciate the experience these four directors will add to the oversight function of the boards," said Bernard Cherkasov, CEO of Equality Illinois. "Board oversight of our finances and activities is an important key to our successful, professional advocacy for rights on behalf of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Illinoisans. Strong boards give the community and our allies confidence in our operations."

All four of the new appointees will serve on the board of the Equality Illinois Education Project, which concentrates on community outreach and building alliances. All except Mr. Collins will also serve on the board of Equality Illinois, which oversees the political advocacy work of the non-profit.
