San Francisco, CA -
Team Roscoe's, better known as Team ‘Hell on Heels', and their craft "Phoebe" finally got the opportunity to compete in Red Bull Flugtag in San Francisco November 10, 2012. They finished 10th out of a competitive lot of 35 entries.
116,000 San Franciscans cheered on the Spectacle of Human-Powered Flight at McCovey Cove Red Bull Flugtag. The thousands that secured a spot in or around McCovey Cove were rewarded with the spectacle of human flight as 32 teams launched their crafts off of a 30-foot flight deck in an attempt to defy gravity. The event marked the 10-year U.S. anniversary, with Red Bull Flugtag returning to the city where it was first held in 2002 - San Francisco.
The team offered: "THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! All of your support meant the world to this team! We know now Phoebe's potential (or lack thereof)... but we also know that in the words of Frida Lay we can deliver "the ultimate drag show." This has been an amazing journey and it wouldn't have been nearly as much fun or worth it without the support of our friends, family, and community. Love you guys!"
Hell on Heels team members are David Sikora, Ricardo "Frida Lay" Avila (the pilot), Mario Elias, Dave Sineni and Eddie Gonzalez. Shawn Hazen is the Team coordinator. Brenden Chrisman, Roscoe's General Manager was the Team Manager and said: "An experience and a trip none of us will soon forget!"
Red Bull Flugtag, which means "flying day" in German, is a competition that dares both the brave and the brainy to design, build and pilot homemade flying machines off a 30-foot high ramp in hopes of achieving human-powered flight. While distance was definitely important, the crafts are also judged on two other criteria - creativity and showmanship.
The team was to compete in the Chicago Red Bull Flugtag on September 8, 2012. Unfortunately mother nature had other plans and the event had to be cancelled due to unsafe marine conditions.
