Chicago, IL -
A 20-year-old man was killed Tuesday when struck by a Metra train in the Hyde Park neighborhood.
The victim was identified as Jermaine Murray of the 7300 block of South Woodlawn Ave.
"Jermaine was a popular and well known member of the black LGBT youth community, and his death comes as a tragic loss to a number of youth across this city," said Frank Walker, president of Youth Pride Services, a South Side organization predominately serving LGBT youth of color.
The train struck Murray at about 5:50 p.m. Tuesday at 53rd Street.
A Metra spokesperson told the Windy City Times that the engineer tried to stop the train but was unable to do so in time.
