Republican Biggert to benefit from gay-rights super PAC $500,000 ad buy

Tue. September 25, 2012

Chicago, IL - American Unity PAC, a super political action committee created and funded by pro-gay hedge fund manager Paul Singer, has indicated that they will spend $500,000 to support Republican Member of Congress Judy Biggert in her tight race with Democrat Bill Foster according to Crain's Chicago Business today.

American Unity was created to assist Republicans who while being fiscally conservative, are protective of gay rights. Ms. Biggert has supported gay rights issues.

"For that reason, we prioritized the race," Jeff Cook, senior adviser to American Unity PAC told Crain's. "She's worked hard to bring Americans together to solve our problems."

According to Crain's, American Unity will spend the money on attack ads against Foster on cable TV and web ads.

Biggert is in a tight race for re-election following redistricting which moved her into the 11th District, which includes the towns of Joliet, Bloomington, Normal, Kankakee, LaSalle, Ottawa and Streator, and all or parts of Will, Kankakee, Grundy, LaSalle, Bureau, Woodford and McLean counties. She has served seven terms in Congress, first elected in 1998.

Foster served a bit more than one term in congress (14th District) before being defeated in the 2010 election.
