Dante’s Cove, the gothic guilty pleasure that premiered this Fall on the here! television network, was given the green light for a second season earlier this week, the first program thee gay and lesbian network has renewed.
The second season of Dante’s Cove is slated to begin production in early 2006. The netweok has ordered six one-hour episodes to be aired later in the year.
here!, America’s first gay and lesbian television network, was formed in 2002 by Regent Entertainment co-founders Paul Colichman and Stephen P. Jarchow. (here! is available in Chicago on Comcast's on-demand lineup of programming.)
Currently available to more than 42 million households, here! is available across the U.S. via satellite and carried by major cable providers nationwide.
“The response to ‘Dante’s Cove’ was so overwhelmingly positive that we immediately committed to a second season,” Colichman explained. “It fits perfectly with what we are trying to do at here! ... create provocative, entertaining material that you will only see on here!”
The show debuted to overwhelming praise from critics: Notes From Hollywood contributor Nicholas Snow called “provocative” and “mind-blowing” while GayWired.com heralded the show a “guilty-pleasure, television extravaganza.”
Dante’s Cove is the story of a group of 20-somethings who all live together at the Hotel Dante in the sleepy, sunny Southern California beach community of Dante’s Cove. When a supernatural force is accidentally released from the hotel basement, all hell breaks loose.
According to here!, Dante's Cove has become the subject of much discussion and speculation on blogs, websites, periodicals and through word of mouth across the country.
“With Season two, we are focused on digging deeper into the characters and creating intricate, provocative storylines that keep our audience coming back for more. We are having an absolute blast with this show,” said Meredith Kadlec, here!'s Vice President of Original Programming.
