Chicago, IL -
An assistant Cook County State's Attorney was attacked and injured Thursday night in Lincoln Park after confronting two teens who were harassing two men they believed were gay, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The attack happened around 7 p.m. in the 200 block of West Diversey Parkway as the prosecutor, 31, was walking to meet a friend. He reportedly witnessed the two teens, around 16 or 17, harassing the men.
The two teens - approximately 16 or 17 years old - described by police as Hispanic, between 5-foot-8 and 6-foot, weighing 150 to 190 pounds, turned on the prosecutor when told to stop. The two then punched, kicked and cut the prosecutor with a broken beer bottle.
The prosecutor reportedly lost a lot of blood and was was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital after he first walked to nearby Saint Joseph Hospital.
State's Attorney's Chief of Staff Dan Kirk declined to identify the intervener, but told the Windy City Times that the State's Attorney's office is extremely proud of him.
Kirk said his office is eager to locate the two men holding hands in the park, as they could be key witnesses to the attack.
Police continue to investigate the incident.
