Hurricane Ends Plans for Southern Decadence

Tue. August 30, 2005

New Orleans, LA - All hope for Labor Day's Southern Decadence Weekend was lost with word of severe flooding throughout the New Orleans Metro area. Up to 6 feet of water surrounds Tulane University Medical Center as of Tuesday afternoon, almost assuring the area of several more weeks of recovery from Hurricane Katrina, which started as a simple tropical storm off the Fort Lauderdale coast before tearing across South Florida as a Category 2 storm and regenerating into a monstrous Category 5 storm before hitting the New Orleans area.

Among those said to have ridden out Katrina's wrath in New Orleans was famed Circuit promoter and OZ Nightclub owner Johnny Chisholm who had reported minimal damage to OZ as of Monday evening.

JustCircuit.com's Shane Rogers mother, Gwen, also rode out the storm, and has sent word that she is safe, despite severe wind damage to her home. With flood waters impeding traffic into and out of Louis Armstrong International Airport, located just adjacent to the "compromised levies" which are responsible for the city's flooding, Southern Decadence 2005 will undoubtedly become a casualty of the storm.

Southern Decadence attracts thousands of people to New Orleans every Labor Day weekend. Last year more than 110,000 attended the event.

In a posting on their website, organizers said "It is inconceivable that any events will take place."
