VP Biden to welcome homophobic Liberian president to White House

Thu. June 7, 2012

Washington, D.C. - On Friday, Vice President Joe Biden will play host to unapologetic homophobe Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

Sirleaf, who is a Nobel Peace Laureate, caused a stir this spring when she said she supported laws in Liberia that make homosexuality punishable with prison time.

"We've got certain traditional values in our society that we would like to preserve," she said.

Sirleaf is scheduled to be at the White House at 1:30 p.m. ET on Friday. During her 12-day visit to the U.S., Sirleaf is also meeting with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
