Contrary to reports, Boy Scouts not planning to allow gay den leaders

Wed. June 6, 2012

Dallas - Contrary to rumors buzzing around the internet, the Boy Scouts of America have no plans to allow gays and lesbians to be den leaders.

The rumor started after a Change.org petition in support of an ousted lesbian den mother, Jennifer Tyrell, was politely received by the Boy Scouts.

Boy Scout spokesman Deron Smith told the

Associated Press he had accepted the petition "as a courtesy."

Smith apparently said the petition would be reviewed, which got the rumor mill started.

However, Boy Scout management was quick to squash any inference that the decades-old organization was going to denounce its anti-gay policies any time soon.

"We have no plans at the moment to make any changes," Scouts CEO Robert Mazzuca said.

Mazzuca said the petition would be considered by a committee, where it presumably will die.
