Chicago, IL -
Following a meeting with homeless and formerly homeless youth at the Broadway Youth Center (BYC), state Rep. Sara Feigenholtz (D-Chicago) announced she is hosting a supply drive to benefit the social service provider.
Feigenholtz and state Sen. Heather Steans (D-Chicago) recently met with BYC's HELLO group, comprised of homeless and formerly homeless youth working on issues surrounding homelessness activism and advocacy. BYC serves youth of all gender identities, sexual orientations, and housing statuses. The supply drive benefits BYC and the youth served at its East Lakeview location.
"BYC is a safe haven for youth in need of medical care, counseling, or a safe place to stay," said Feigenholtz. "This supply drive is a way for us to give back to BYC as a community and thank them for their work on behalf of our most vulnerable youth."
Items needed include disposable plates and utensils, hand sanitizer, pens, laundry detergent, toiletries, personal care products, and non-perishable snacks. The center is particularly in need of new socks, deodorant, face towels, and baby powder. Residents can drop off donations to Feigenholtz's office located at 1051 West Belmont, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Donations will be collected through the end of April.
For more information, contact Feigenholtz's constituent services office at (773) 296-4141. For a full list of items on the BYC "wish list," visit www.staterepsara.com/drive.
