Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman announced he will drop out of the Republican presidential race Monday, according to CNN.com.
Huntsman will endorse front-runner Mitt Romney.
Huntsman made the announcement in South Carolina.
The 51-year-old Huntsman has spoken in favor of civil unions and a state's right to decide on the issue of marriage quality for gay and lesbian couples.
Romney is known for being anti-abortion and anti-gay. He signed a pledge at the National Organization for Marriage in 2011 to oppose marriage quality.
On the weekend, GOP candidate Rick Santorum received key endorsements from evangelical leaders. Seen as a conservative alternative to Romney, Santorum has not only threatened to end marriage equality, but he said he would invalidate any gay marriages that have already taken place.
