Singer Ricky Martin is reportedly planning to marry his long-term partner, Carlos Gonzalez Abella, after receiving Spanish citizenship.
According to the Spanish Newspaper El Pais, the 39-year-old Martin applied for a Spanish passport with the intention of using the country's same-sex marriage laws to wed his partner of four years.
Martin, who came out in 2009, is the father to three-year-old twin boys Matteo and Valentino.
The Latino pop star was not asked to renounce his Puerto Rican or US citizenship, which is uncommon.
Last year Martin told CNN's Larry King, ""I can go to Spain. I have many friends in Spain. And get married. And make it very beautiful and symbolic. But… I [can't] do it in the backyard of my house. I want to have that option. I don't want to be a second class citizen anymore. I pay my taxes. Why can't I have that right?"
Spain passed legislation allowing same-sex marriages in 2005.
