HIV/AIDS Advocate Charles E. Clifton Dies at 45

Clifton was a great leader in the fight against HIV/AIDS

Chicago, IL - Charles E. Clifton, Executive Director of Test Positive Aware Network (TPAN) and Editor of the national HIV/AIDS treatment journal Positively Aware died unexpectedly on Sunday, August 15, 2004 at the age of 45.



A native of Milwaukee, WI, Clifton earned a Bachelors of Arts in US History at San Francisco State University in 1993. He continued his studies, earning Masters of Arts degrees from Dartmouth College in 1995 and University of Chicago 2002.

Clifton joined the TPAN program staff in 1995. In 1999 he was named MOCHA (Men of Color with HIV/AIDS Coalition) Director at TPAN, and in 2000 assumed the duties of editor of Positively Aware. In July of 2002, Clifton was appointed executive director of the agency, and continued to serve as editor of Positively Aware and Positively Aware en EspaƱol, TPAN's nationally distributed HIV/AIDS treatment journals.



Clifton's leadership at TPAN will continue through the programs and services offered at the agency. All programs will continue as scheduled.

TPAN staff, Board of Directors, friends, family and colleagues will miss Charles. Funeral and memorial service plans are still pending.
