Now that the law that barred gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military has been repealed, many soldiers are coming out gay.
One solider posted a video of himself finally revealing his sexuality to his father during a very personal and heartbreaking phone call from Germany, where he is stationed.
"I called my dad to tell him the hardest thing that gay guys will ever have to say," wrote the soldier, known as AreYouSuprised.
The video, which has gone viral on the Internet, is enough to bring tears to your eyes as his father responds in loving support.
"I still love you and will always love you," replied his dad.
The 21-year-old active duty military member from Alabama has for the past five months shared his experience, as a closeted gay man in the military, through a series of videos posted on the video sharing website.
AreYouSurprised has more than 98,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel, and before Tuesday's posting has had more than 2 million video views.
