Puerto Rican Senator resigns after nude photos turn up on gay app

Sun. August 28, 2011

San Juan, Puerto Rico - Puerto Rican Sen. Roberto Arango has resigned after nude photos that are apparently of him appeared on the gay iPhone app Grindr.

One photo shows a man from the waist up with a cell phone in front of his face. The other shows a man on his hands and knees and is taken from behind.

Media reports pointed out that the necklace the man is wearing in the photo matches a necklace that Arango was recently photographed wearing.

"I really don't remember having taken those pictures of myself, but it doesn't mean I didn't take them," he told WAPA-TV. "I really don't remember."

Arango recently voted against a gay marriage bill.

Local gay rights activist Pedro Julio Serrano pointed out to the Associated Press that Arango also voted against job protections for gays and lesbians.

"This isn't a moment to kick someone when he's down, but I have to denounce Sen. Roberto Arango's complicity with a fundamentalist agenda that promotes the exclusion and marginalization of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people," Serrano said.
