Dulles, VA -
With Thanksgiving just around the corner the holiday shopping season is officially upon us. Online shopping has become an attractive alternative to fighting the crowds at the mall, and every year the number of cybershoppers continues to grow at a record pace.
But there's a new twist to holiday 2000... in addition to rookies shopping online, seasoned cybershoppers are coming back for more -- and with that comes higher expectations. Holiday 2000 is expected to be another banner year for e-commerce, with analysts predicting that consumers will spend between $10 and $12 billion online.
According to the 2000 AOL/Roper-Starch Cyberstudy, online commerce has become an everyday activity for millions of Internet users. This year, over half of the survey's respondents (56%) say that they currently shop online, nearly double those who did in 1998 (31%).
Cybershopping is expected to become even more popular in the coming years as shopping services become available to hundreds of online consumers on new Internet appliances and handheld devices.
