Chicago Police say discover is unrelated to Clewer investigation

Chicago, IL - Chicago Police are saying that the death of a Lakeview man, found badly decomposed in an apartment in the Lakeview neighborhood, is not linked to a brutal murder committed just two blocks away.

A maintenance worker found the badly decomposed body of 45-year-old Forest Cowley Tuesday morning in an apartment at 638 W. Cornelia Avenue. Police are unsure how or when the businessman died.

News of Crowley's death worried many residents in the Lakeview neighborhood because the apartment where he was found is a block and a half away from where Kevin Clewer was stabbed to death in March.

On March 23, 38 year-old Clewer was found stabbed 40 times in his apartment at 3444 N. Elaine Place.

The Clewer murder remains unsolved. Investigators have recently named a suspect described as a Male White Hispanic, approx. 25 years old, 5' 7" tall, slim / athletic build, speaks with a Hispanic or European Spanish accent. He is thought to occasionally work as a male prostitute, though police stress there is no indication he was engaged in an act of prostitution the night of the homicide. Sunday before the Chicago Gay Pride Parade, Clewer's family meet with reporters to help reinvigorate the investigation. Family and friends of Clewer marched in the Parade and distributed fliers. (story)

Anyone with information in either investigation is asked to call Belmont Area detectives at 312-744-8261.
