Chicago, IL -
The victim of Sunday's brutal attack and stabbing had hoped to attend Wednesday night's community policing meeting, but he remains in the hospital recovering from five stab wounds that left him with a collapsed lung. He tells ABC7 that he remembers "fighting for my life."
"I remember the violence," said the victim by phone with ABC7. "I remember defending myself, I remember fighting for my life. That's what I remember."
He says that his attackers were strangers and the altercation began with a gay slur, though he believes they too were gay.
?He described spending the July 4 holiday watching the video played over and over and called his attackers a "bunch of cowards."
ABC did not reveal his name to protect his identity.
